An Update

There has been some concern among Sweety's doctors lately, about the size of his head compared to the size of his body. (What else can you possibly expect with his gene pool?!) The docs wanted to make sure he didn't have fluid on his brain or a tumor or something. I wasn't too concerned, but off we dutifully went to the hospital last Tuesday for an MRI.

Sweety was sedated and everything went swimmingly, exept the machine that transmits vitals to the observation room refused to participate. So the sedation nurse and I got some earplugs and sat in the room with Sweety and observed him the old fashioned way. (Is his chest moving up and down? Yep, okay that means he's still breathing.) We had a good time writing notes back and forth about how crazy cousin Amy is. (Amy works in radiology at our hospital)

Any-hoo, Sweety's pediatrician called me with the results this morning, and what they've found are more questions; which will probably lead to more testing. Blegh! But I do have faith that the answers will come when we need them.

Apparently Sweety's pituitary gland is abnormally small and the sadle that holds it in place was never fully developed. I'm sure this relates to his growth hormone deficiancy, but his pediatrician didn't feel like she knew enough to really say how. So we'll have to wait for the endo on that one. Also, when the anesthesiologist was checking Sweety he found that his septum (I think that's what it's called. I'm referring to the flap of skin that closes off your windpipe when you swallow) is "wobbly."So there you have it. But I must express my gratitude that inspite of this stuff, Sweety's brain is growing just fine. He is sharp and fully mentally awake. He is walking, crawling, and transitioning well. He's starting to sign up a storm and has lots and lots of opinions about everything! Hang in there Sweety, we'll get this all figured out eventually.

It must be hard to constantly have worries. I can't think of a more qualified person to love those little guys through everything.

Good job Lynn. You're doing great with your cute boys. I'm grateful that medical technology and information has developed this much. I feel I was in the dark ages when they wondered why Josh wasn't growing or what Brandon's disability was. One resource teacher, I believe now, was right. I'm glad so much more research and help is available. My friend who taught years in special ed hadn't even heard about apraxia when her daughter said the doctors thought her son was apraxic. Advances are being made. I'm grateful.

My prayers are with you and your precious family.
