Smarty's 4th birthday is coming soon, and the realization fills me with gratitude. He's come so far in such a short time. He's worked awfully hard to accomplish all he has.
When I picked him up from school today a teacher commented on how well he spoke and how skilled he was at maintaining conversation. It's true, he's really great at chatting on many topics now and adding insights of his own to the exchange.
Thinking back to his 3rd birthday, things were so different. He communicated with the 200-ish signs we knew, and the 15 or 20 spoken words he could make with his small vocab of sounds. It was incredibly difficult to send him away to preschool when I was so used to being an integral part of all his therapies. The most difficult thing was that I couldn't get him to tell me much about school. He just wasn't able to! For a while I thought I would absolutley explode!
And going all the way back to his 2nd birthday, we were still encouraging him to make any sounds at all. Gurgling, sucking, whatever we could get!
Now when I pick him up from school. With a little coaxing he dolls out minute after minute of info about the days events. It's so great to hear! It's like chocolate to my little mommy's soul. I feel very much connected to his schooling again. Thanks for all your fine work Smarty.

What cute boys you have! Congrats and a big pat on the back to Smarty on his speech and Sweetie on his steps. I'm glad you found me and look forward to seeing updates on your adorable family. :)
I totally agree! I think he talks very very well. He is so cute. And yay sweety for taking your steps!
It's completely maddening when you you can't get out of them what went on in there day, isn't it? We had some issues like this with Johnathan last year. I thought I'd go crazy. I'm so thrilled to hear about how much he's accomplished. It's also so good to be able to look back and be able to see how far they have gone. It's like an invisible pat on the back. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with both of your kids.
