Steam Engine 844

Last fall we enjoyed the privilege of watching an old 'Big-boy' steam engine come through town. Those gigantic wheels turning so fast never fail to astonish me. Seeing a living, working model in action is an incredible experience. All the parts of this engine are just heavy and HUGE and so dang powerful! And all of this is driven by water! It's just crazy!
Ben caught it passing under our Front Runner commuter train in a lovely moment of past-meets-future irony. It then stopped at historic Union Station in Ogden to rest, refill, and attract lots of attention and spendy, lover-of-gift-shop types.
I love the steam rising up in around Front Runner, and check out mighty Ben Lomond in the background. This is such a beautiful shot.

Then the next morning, the boys and I watched it chug up the canyon toward Evanston, WY.
Check out the Dodge truck in the pic below. That's my brother and father chasing the train on up the canyon. But we were all so enraptured with the train that they literally passed right by me, and none of us saw each other! It wasn't until I got home and started looking at my pictures that I noticed them. Too funny!
